What is Ocean Protocol (OCEAN)?

Ocean Protocol is a blockchain-based ecosystem that allows individuals and businesses to easily unlock the value of their data and monetize it using ERC-20-based tokens. Through the Ocean Protocol, publishers can monetize their data while maintaining privacy and control, while consumers now have access to data that was previously unavailable or hard to find. Users can now purchase these datasets on Ocean Market.

OCEAN token holders can directly participate in the datatoken economy by staking their tokens on datasets on the Ocean Market. Stakers then become liquidity providers in the selected OCEAN-datatoken pool and earn a portion of the transaction fees generated by the pool.

Ocean Protocol unlocks access to previously inaccessible or hard-to-access data by allowing anyone with sought-after datasets to specify their data and make it available on the Ocean Market. As of November 2020, a total of 414 million OCEAN tokens are currently in circulation. It will take a total of 50 years to release the OCEAN aggregate supply. OCEAN is an ERC-20 token currently running on the Ethereum blockchain. OCEAN is powered by prof of work mining and a network of nodes protecting it from various attacks.
