What is Storj?
Storj (STORJ) is a secure, distributed and open source cloud storage platform. Basically, it uses a decentralized blockchain network to host user data. Users not only benefit from the cloud storage system, but also access a completely decentralized environment with virtually no security risks thanks to blockchain. Wanting to offer a more reliable alternative to cloud storage service, Storj created a service network called "Tardigrade" in late 2018. Tardigrade is an open source cloud storage service network built on the Storj network. This service mesh works with free hard disk capacity. Users with good hard disk space and internet connection join the network, becoming a unit in the network called a node, and as a result, these space providers are rewarded with STORJ, the native token of the Storj network.
Who/By Who Was Storj Developed?
Storj was founded in May 2014 by Shawn Wilkinson. Wilkinson is an Atlanta-based software developer. With co-founder John Quinn, they published their first technical paper towards the end of 2014. Two years later, they updated the first technical article and published another technical report.
As well as being a blockchain enthusiast, John Quinn has an extensive background in business development. Prior to founding Storj, he was involved in the investment banking industry. The current version of Storj, V3, was released in mid-2019. Wilkinson is currently chief strategy officer (CSO), while Quinn serves as chief revenue officer (CSO) in addition to serving on the company's board of directors.
